"Dr. Rand helped me with my pain that I had from a colon cancer surgery, and when I came in complaining of no energy and it was detected that I had cancer again. I lived a life of stress and worry before I met Dr. Rand. He helped me more than this short note delivers and I no longer take any non-natural medication. I am pain free, cancer free and really living for the first time in my 45 years."

- Thank you all again, God-speed, David W.

Those who have a chronic pain problem that has been going on for some time, even after appropriate treatment, should have achieved a state of stability and ability to function in life. Pain can affect many aspects of life. It can affect everything from daily activities, create problems in relationships, difficulty functioning at home, at work or in social settings, it can disrupt sleeping patterns, cause depression and mood disorders. Ongoing pain can dominate one's existence and lead to hopelessness and helplessness. We understand your pain. Those who are taking medications may be experiencing adverse side effects, one of which may be unsatisfactory relief of their symptoms (as an adverse effect, or directly causing increase of pain).

When ongoing pain affects the patient's quality of life, medications and their adverse effects need to be evaluated. If the medication and treatment are working, then the problems should stabilize and one can resume a normal functional life style. If that is not the case, then the patient may be experiencing problems from the medications that affect the pain and behavior as well.

Learning to re-establish a pattern of living includes acceptance with ones' problems and making the appropriate adjustments socially, psychologically and functionally. Medication management coupled with psychological and physical rehabilitation in an environment of day to day living allows for a smooth transition back to normal life. The goal and result of our chronic pain treatment program is to restore the quality of ones' life. We have successfully helped hundreds of patients over the years and we would love to talk to you.

Functional Restoration

Started in the 1970s, Functional Restoration has been gaining momentum as a treatment option to remove patients from the pain cycle

What is Functional Restoration?

Functional Restoration is a combination of psychological treatment, medication optimization, and progressive physical therapy that allows patients to return to the activities most important to them. Often patients with chronic pain have decreased activity levels, muscle atrophy, weight gain, and decreased stamina. Our goal is to reverse this trend. Each patient learns to incorporate stretching, strengthening and aerobic conditioning into their daily lives. With proper safe body-mechanics instruction, we help patients cope with pain to improve their physical function, emotional state, and quality of life by decreasing the fear of re-injury while increasing general mind-body awareness.

Who can benefit from Functional Restoration?

This type of treatment has shown great results for patients with chronic pain, impaired function from orthopedic and/or nerve injuries who have not had success with conventional physical therapy or treatments. Bay Recovery and Isis Physical Therapy are careful in their selection of Functional Restoration candidates. The patient must show relative rehabilitation potential, and a willingness to work hard and commit to their individualized goals.

Why should I use this treatment?

Functional Restoration is the long-term solution to a long-term problem. We work with patients to remove both physical and psychological barriers they experience as a result of their pain, allowing them to return to the quality of life that they desire.

We are waiting to work with you to improve your life and the lives of those around you. If you have tried other physical therapy and pain management treatments that have not given you the results that you desire, please call our clinic to find out more about how we can help

Rehabilitative Services

Rehabilitative Services, Restoring Function, Bringing Purpose & Meaning Back to One's Life.

Occupational Therapy – At The Rand Instiute for Recovery’s Rehabilitation Department provides occupational therapy, as well as physical therapeutic modalities to those clients.
Physical limitations occur with day-to-day living and functioning. Inability to take care of oneself and perform day-to-day tasks that affect their lives is call activities of daily living. Physical therapy is aimed at restoring motion and function. Occupational therapy is aimed at learning to perform daily tasks.

At The Rand Instiute for Recovery, we look at each individual in our residential environment. Our program assists in restoring day-to-day activities that individuals would normally do throughout the day. Many patients in pain, and following injuries, lack certain motions and abilities to perform day-to-day tasks. In addition to daily living, functioning at work (ergonomics) is reviewed, as well as obvious dysfunctional activities in and around The Rand Instiute for Recovery’s treatment center.
